Major Israeli Highway Getting Upgrades in Judea and Samaria
25 million Shekels allocated to upgrade Highway 90 in Judea and Samaria region. Planning for two-lane dual carriageways and safety improvements.
Jerusalem, 4 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — An additional 25 million Shekels has been allocated to continue the improvement of Highway 90 and the Ministry of Transportation and Netivei Israel are embarking on initial planning for the statutory regulation of Highway 90 in sections in the Judea and Samaria region. Highway 90 runs from northern Israel down through the Jordan River Valley, along the Dead Sea and then south to Eilat.
The planning will be carried out in two main sections: from the area north of Ein Gedi (by the Dead Sea) to the area next to it, and from the Arava Junction (just south of the Dead Sea) to the Petsa’el Junction (north of Jericho) – with a total scope of approximately 50 kilometers, out of the 120 kilometers included in the axis, according to the budget received.
As part of the planning, a solution will be provided for expanding the road to two-lane dual carriageways, as well as safety improvements tailored to the unique terrain conditions and the challenges of sinkholes in the area, with the aim of increasing the level of safety and ensuring optimal traffic flow along the axis.
The planning will focus on two central sections, approximately 50 km long, and will include expanding the road to two lanes and safety improvements tailored to the area.
