During his visit to Ethiopia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar met privately with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for over an hour at the Presidential Palace in Addis Ababa.
FM Sa’ar also met with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Dr. Gedion Timotheos.
At a press conference, FM Sa’ar addressed the Houthi attacks and the Israeli response: “Just yesterday, they launched a missile that struck near our airport. They pose a threat to Israel, to Africa, and to the entire international community. Israel will respond.”
During his meetings, FM Sa’ar highlighted the shared threat of terrorism faced by both Israel and Ethiopia. He noted that the al-Shabaab terrorist organization, which targets Ethiopia, is collaborating with the Houthis, who are supported by Iran.
FM Sa’ar emphasized the long-standing alliance between Israel and Ethiopia, two influential regional powers, which is founded on historical, cultural and security ties.
FM Sa’ar also spoke with the Ethiopian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister about enhancing political, economic, and security ties between Israel and Ethiopia.
