Jerusalem, 17 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Ministry of Transportation and the Municipality of Sderot announced a public Transportation project worth approximately 25 million shekels ($8.5 million), which upgrades the city’s public transportation system, improves accessibility, shortens travel times and contributes to the quality of life of the city’s residents and workers.

Located just north of Gaza, Sderot was one of the towns overrun by Hamas terrorists on October 7.

The project will design priority public transportation lanes along Menachem Begin Street, with a total length of approximately 3.4 kilometers. The lanes will help improve the speed and reliability of service, reduce traffic congestion, and create a better travel experience for public transportation users in the city.

In addition, the development of a network of bicycle paths covering approximately 5 kilometers will be promoted, carried out by the Israel Roads Company and the Sderot Municipality. The move will strengthen walking and cycling in the city, encourage the use of clean and healthy means of transportation, and improve connectivity between parts of the city.
