Jerusalem, 5 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — An advanced waste sorting facility constructed with government support of approximately 40 million Shekels ($11.7 million) was inaugurated at the Evron site in the Western Galilee. The Ministry of Environmental Protection said this represents a new era in waste management in the North and another step in the strategy to reduce landfilling and turn waste into a resource, such as for energy.
The facility, which is designed to turn waste into a resource, was built as part of the preparations for the closure of the landfill site and is expected to be one of the most advanced sorting facilities in Israel and the world. Its opening is another important step in implementing the national strategy to reduce landfill and promote a circular economy in Israel.
The facility is the first of a series of additional facilities that will be built on the site and will enable advanced waste treatment, including a facility for treating organic material and a facility for recovering energy from waste. The new facility is intended to be an environmental alternative to landfill and reduce the environmental impacts caused by landfilling waste. The facility is expected to absorb and treat approximately 1,300 tons of mixed waste each day.
The products of the sorting plant are raw materials for recycling, a stream rich in organic waste intended for treatment and stabilization, and sorting residues, all of which have so far been destined for landfill and will in the future be transferred to energy production.
