Israel and Cyprus Move Forward on Great Sea Interconnector Project
Israel and Cyprus advance on Great Sea Interconnector Project, connecting Israel to Europe. Strategic move for energy security and regional partnerships.
Jerusalem, 16 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Eli Cohen met today (Tuesday) with his Cypriot counterpart George Papanastsio. The two discussed the progress of the undersea power cable project that will connect Israel to Europe, and the Aphrodite-Yishay natural gas reservoir agreement.
The ministers agreed to continue promoting the Great Sea Interconnector project, which will connect Israel to Europe via Cyprus and Greece. This is a project of strategic importance for Israel, which will allow Europe to diversify its energy sources and contribute to increasing Israel’s energy security. In addition, this project is a realization of the vision of creating an infrastructure and energy corridor that will connect the East to the West via the Gulf States and Israel, as part of the expansion of the Abraham Accords.
The ministers also discussed the agreement on the Aphrodite-Yishay natural gas field, which is located in the exclusive economic zones of Cyprus and Israel. The agreement will strengthen Israel’s position as a regional energy power.
