Jerusalem, 29 July, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Blue Line, the first BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) line in the Dan Bloc – greater Tel Aviv – which will connect the southern Dan Bloc cities of Rehovot, Rishon LeZion and Ness Ziona to Tel Aviv, is advancing another step with the receipt of budgetary approval for a Ness Ziona bypass road that will serve as an alternative to Herzl Street in the city, which will become a designated freeway for the new line.

The Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety, through the Ayalon Highways Company, is promoting the Blue Line project that will connect the cities of the Shfela (southwest of Jerusalem) to the Tel Aviv metropolis, using a mass transit system (BRT) based on high-capacity electric express buses that carry up to 200 passengers.

The line, with a total length of 30 kilometers, will include 44 stations and serve approximately 100,000 passengers per day. Work on the line began in early 2025 in the city of Rehovot, where the line will pass along Herzl Street, which will be upgraded into a bustling urban space.

The Blue Line work will last about three years. The construction cost is about 2.9 billion Shekels ($860 million). The line will connect residential, commercial, employment, educational, health and leisure centers and is expected to serve over 30 million passengers a year.
