Clean Beach Program Celebrates 20 Years
Israel's "Clean Beach" program marks 20 years of promoting clean beaches and environmental responsibility. Join the movement to keep our shores pristine.
Jerusalem, 20 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s “Clean Beach” program is celebrating 20 years. The public awareness campaign calls on people to keep beaches clean by, for example, encouraging people to bring take-home reusable utensils to the beach rather than polluting disposables. So far, 14 million Shekels ($4.11 million) have been invested in the national program.
For two decades, the Ministry of Environmental Protection’s Clean Beach Program has been promoting the cleaning of open beaches along 157 km in the Mediterranean Sea and the Gulf of Eilat. To mark the program’s 20th anniversary, the Ministry is launching an awareness campaign calling on the public to continue to go to the beaches with reusable utensils, to accept responsibility for themselves, and to leave the beach clean.
Th funding includes support for cleaning open beaches, support for strengthening enforcement, underwater cleaning carried out with the help of a volunteer network, a public information campaign, and monitoring of the sea and beaches.
