The Electric Bicycle and Scooter Licensing Law requiring the license plates first went into effect in July 2024, and the fine for failing to install a license plate first went into force in September 2024.

The requirement was implemented in order to crack down on the unsafe use of such vehicles and he failure to follow the rules of the road by their divers.
